The revolution continues, and I want YOUR family, YOUR business, YOU to be a part of it.

Back in February, high above all the noise and rumpus that is Las Vegas, NV, I found myself in a quiet  room, filled with the most exceptional group of women I have ever met. These women KNOW that happy families don’t just happen; they are MADE. This group of women understands that every single choice they make as mothers, is a significant one. These women have changed the course of my life, and continue to do so each and every day. They’ve put in the smart, focused, and intentional work, and every one of them will tell you that their lives, families, businesses, SELVES are better because of it. I’m so thankful for their examples that inspire me to step into my own life, business and family with more resolve, passion and joy! Some of them won scholarships for nursing, others mastered new specialties, etc.

  • Emily Ruth: Words can't do justice to what this scholarship would mean to me. I recently started my Birth Doula and Childbirth Education practice. In the busyness, I've lost balance. With two kiddos (3 and 1,) I don't want them or my husband to get less of me than what they deserve. But I feel this calling and passion for birthwork--- I'm working on myself, striving to improve.   • Kris: To be completely honest. #1 I need you to be some fresh water through my gills. I feel like a shark who has stopped swimming. We are on our second move in a year (today we pick up the moving truck...huzzah!) I was pregnant last time and now my fourth is only four months old. I actually just dissolved my business to buy our home and it feels like I chopped off a limb. Not sure I have the strength to start it from scratch, again. This is the really honest part. #2. I'm a skeptic. I think you talk a lot of talk, but I'm wondering if there's a lot of walking going on. I'm the daughter of a salesman, and I'm not sure I'm buying what you're selling. See? What can you REALLY do for my business in a one day (nay, four hours!) that I haven't in three years? You asked for gut honesty. I may be a skeptic, but in the same shark-gilled breath, I've always admired and wanted to meet you. Maybe it's the move, maybe it's the nursing brain, but I'm feeling brazen today.   • Vanessa Vaomotou: The last 3 years I have been married have been the hardest I have ever experienced in my life financially. Fortunately, that has never once had an impact on my marriage or beautiful family. We know what is important to us. We have gone weeks without electricity, gas, food, even sold furniture. I don't say this to make you feel sorry for me, but understand that these are just things in my life that are not emotionally or spiritually important. But, now I feel like it is time that I step up to help support my family. Photography is not only something I enjoy and love, it's something I can do to help my family grow and survive. I have so many dreams for myself and I don't know how to begin, let alone take care of my family- when I can barely do it right now! Life is a whirlwind, and I know it is for a lot of people.   • Cassie Foster: Natalie...Even though I've never met you, you are one of my heroes! These last 6 months have been so out of control that I would love the opportunity to breathe. In the last 6 months my husband was laid off, started a new job, my daughter was diagnosed with autism, and I have felt very strongly that I need to do something to help others in my situation. My husband and I have decided we want to open a center for children with autism and their families. There is nothing in Northern Utah that is for the whole family of an autistic child. I don't know how to balance my life right now. Between taking care of my daughter, her doctors appointments, trying to figure out how to pay for all of them, my husbands job, doing photography, and trying to figure out how and where to do this center that I feel is one of my callings in the life. College graduation, new baby, new job, new business etc. - all of the change is EXCITING and scary/overwhelming at the same time.   • Millie: I cant say anything other than I NEED this! If I could make that statement all bold and italicized, I would. I feel like I am either 100% into my work, and glued to my computer all day, or im giving everything to my daughter. I have NO balance, and sadly my work seems to be winning the busier I get. I NEED this workshop! With my husband in school full time, and work slowing down due to the incessant heat in AZ, I never seem to be able to truly invest in my business with the dollars. When I saw you were coming to MY city, I knew that it was a must that I attend. I will scrimp and save, but my husband is a full time student, and money is always tight. But, I would just like to put in my two cents about Jennifer Garbett. We have been BFs since we were 11 (22 years). She is amazing!! She came from a shaky and rough foundation and has completely made something of her life. She is an extremely talented and successful photographer and the loving mother of 3 kids with one on the way!! :) She has created/accomplished so much in her life, but is always looking for a chance to "breathe".   • Heidi Marshall: Natalie, for the first time since I 'met' you & started reading about these absolutely amazing Breathe Intensives... I actually feel like I'm ready for this. My photography business has been s.l.o.w.l.y coming together over the last several years, but all of a sudden it's taking off like crazy & I find myself struggling to keep it all together. I have 4 boys . . . ages 11, 8, 5 & 19 months who (as you very well know) keep me on my toes as it is with all the normal stuff that comes with being a mom of boys. I've been taking a good hard look at my schedule for the next few months & I'm actually booked up through September! I have 10 clients on my 'to-do' list that I still need to finish up proofs, print orders, custom printed books, etc. and that list is growing faster than I can keep up with! Seems like for every ONE client I finish up with, I'm adding 3 more. My house is a wreck, I'm behind on laundry, dishes & general upkeep, my photo gear is still in my living room from a month ago since I haven't had 'time' to put it all away before the next session. I'm doing pictures for an entire dance studio on Saturday (which I've never done before) that I'm trying to prepare for, as well as trying to whittle down my list, and I just realized it's Mother's Day coming up so I need to take time out for my Mom & it also dawned on me that it truly IS the 2nd Sunday of the month so I have an RS lesson to prepare! I've tried taking time out for myself to get a massage, trip to the hair salon, and some therapeutic shopping, but that just takes time AWAY from all the other things I need to focus on. I KNOW I can handle all of this, and I WANT to! But I need help figuring out exactly how to juggle it all. I don't feel like I neglect my family (just the house), but I just can't BREATHE sometimes!! Just since I started trying to type this, I've had to change a poopy diaper, listen to my 5 year old read 2 books to me so he could earn his Wii time, help my 10 year old (who is home sick today) with a few things in his Webelos book, kiss an owie, and now my little guy is crying, pulling on my arm & trying to close my keyboard tray. :0( I absolutely LOVE what I do . . . both being a Mom & being a photographer, but I SO badly want to be amazing at BOTH & not feel like I'm sacrificing one for the other so often. I finally have the confidence in my talent & abilities as a photographer (although I still have a long way to go before I get to where I want to be), but I don't want my family to suffer because of my business success. PLEASE Natalie . . . I'm am willing to do what it takes . . . I just don't know how. I am begging you to help me . . . It would absolutely mean the world to me.   • Jeremy Peterson: As a husband I couldn't be more proud of the the mother, wife, and inspiration my wife has become. If it weren't for her photography we would not have our most cherished memories of our son Payton who passed on to the eternal world 6 years ago. I have heard my wife talk about you and the inspiration you have been to her on many occasions and she would be greatly honored to attend your Breathe Intensive in Phoenix. Obviously I am biased but there is truly no one more deserving then my wife Amanda. Just this past week my wife had one of her external hard drives crash that erased part of the first year of our one year old little daughters life. She's usually really good at backing files up in two places but there were quite a few that she hadn't done yet. It has been quite the ordeal as you can imagine, but each day she puts one foot in front of the other and strives to be the best mother, wife, photographer and friend to everyone. With three little one's at home and dealing with the day to day grind she says to me all the time that she wishes she could just figure out how to balance everything better. I have a family, a wonderful hard-working husband and three young children, and I have my mind and my heart, which I write on my blog. I want that blog to work for me. I know I can do it. I know I have something to say and I know people want to hear it. I just need to know how to make it happen. I've been putting in the work there consistently for 6 months, and so far I have gotten a few wonderful friendships out of it but I am ready to take it to the next level. I just have no clue how. The main reasons for this were one three year old, one six year old and one 40 year old. In reality I am a slave to my business working form the time i get up to the second I fall asleep in the wrinkled clothes I wore all day. I have forgotten how to make time for my self, my family, and friends. I have become a slave to my business and have a better relationship with my blackberry that I do my husband. Last night I was in bed sobbing as I realized that while I had run my errands and accomplished all my work for the day, I hadn't done anything of lasting consequence. I hadn't read a book to a child (I have 5), dinner was a complete fail, bedtime was thoroughly lacking in love. It's not even like I'm new to this. My oldest turns 11 today, and my business is celebrating 10 years this year. But balance is ever more elusive. Speaking of which, I've got to go, I have a birthday breakfast to make before I get to work this morning! BTW, loving how many mompreneurs and potential mompreneurs there are here in the valley.   • Angela Salazar: I wanted to create and use my artistic talents, do something for myself and make people smile while doing it (and possibly make a little side money too). So I bought a camera, equipment, studied and practiced and studied and practiced...over and over. And now I am doing it! People actually come to ME wanting their special moments captured! But why do I feel guilty everytime I sit down to work on my business? Lately I've been feeling like I will never be able to truly be a photographer, the way I'd love to be, and be the mother I've always wanted to be as well! It's just not possible! Or is it? I'd love to learn your strategies, know how people do it, how YOU do it! Is it really possible to be freed from guilt as a mother and entrepenuer? I know I have all the pieces in place, but have never managed to pull them all together..to create that synergy that you speak of. I know I have this inexplicable fear of success, of soaring, of fully honoring myself and what I know I can do. And so I hold back, and make excuses and get overwhelmed. This year has been my first year as full economic support for my family, and I have still not stepped all the way up, in the way I know in my heart that I could, and made it happen.   • Sharon Johnson: When life is rough the typical advice is to take it day one day at a time. I have a gorgeous happy baby, supportive husband, a roof over my head, and my health... and for reasons that feel just out of reach beyond my fingers tips, I can't manage to even take it one day at a time right now. My father used to tell me "take it day to day and if you can't, take it hour to hour, min by min, or breathe by breathe. Every time I here about your Workshop, I think of me cuddled in his lap telling me to "just breathe." I KNOW I am meant to change this world. I KNOW I will be AMAZING, that I will get through this lull, and that I will be HAPPY... more importantly I know who I need and so desperately want to become.... but....right now... I just don't know how to do all of that. I would love to meet up with you all in Phoenix as I know I will get that kick in the heart, head, spirit and kick in the butt I am anxiously looking for. If I could attach a picture of my office you would be able to tell right away that *balance* isn't really my strong point. Keep trying to find that thing that will help me get to the point where I feel like I can keep the right balls in the air and be content with the ones that sit to the side sometimes.   • Kathryn: By the time I sat down in the car today to drive my 4 girls to the library, I found myself having to focus my breathing to calm that racing heart of mine. Weren't these Lamaze breaths supposed to be for labor? Did labor really end? The last time I gave birth was nearly 2 years ago, but since having 2 sets of twins in 3 years, I feel like I'm constantly trying to keep afloat in a sea of laundry, needy arms, preschool lessons, blogging to-do's, heads of hair to be kept up, meals to be made...I could keep going, but I think everyone knows what I mean. I don't think I'm much different than the next mom. It seems we are all working each day to be our best, but sometimes I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels. (Some days it feels like I've lost them completely.) But, I'm ready to get somewhere. I'm ready for my high-gear to actually be worth the gas. May 5, 2011 9:23 pm
  • Mackenzie: I had to breathe and breathe again before I wrote down my few thoughts. I am mom and step mom. Being a stepmom is world I never thought I would enter into. However, I would not trade it for anything. Because of this I have to work full-time, and still be a mother, with the latter title being the only one I truly want. I don't have the luxury of practicing as much as I would love to. I have to find snippets of time with my kids because of me having to work. I feel like I see my kids in passing at times (mostly my step son because we share custody) because I have to be a full-time mom and work outside the home. It is a struggle to balance and sometimes I ache for them even though it was minutes ago when I saw them. I would love a chance to come and refocus, get strength from other amazing and talented people. To learn from so many whose skills are far superior t mine would be a blessing. I want to innately understand and know my camera, lighting, etc. so I can focus on catching the memories and times I have with my children (and others I am privileged to shoot) and catch the essence and character that makes them special. I need to grow. I need to learn. I need to make a change in my life to be there for my children's life. My goal is to a stay-at-home mom, yet still be able to have a creative outlet for me. So you could see my face and feel my heart. But Im gonna do my best to make this tiny box of comment work. =) I took a shot at the other Breathe scholarship you were offering in Vegas. I am blessed... blessed with an awesome husband and the most awesome kids... and for some reason God has decided to bless me with this passion for capturing life. Its so precious. My heart just bursts with joy knowing God is using me.. however with these blessings I feel I want to be obedient with my time (wife/mother/photographer). Not so easy. I know the knowledge & inspiriation your giving at this workshop is invaluable. I just know it. Im sure every woman that attends will be empowered and inspired. I hope to be among them.   • Marily: I have been inspired lately that I need to make some big life changes. I was excited for a while, and now I am discouraged. It turns out, I don't know how to change! I know some of the things that I need to do and changes that I need to make but I can't seem to actually make those changes. I could really use some focus on how to prioritize, how to feel more joy (and less frustration) and how to grow my business all while being a mom to three little boys.   • Taressa: I am finishing school and starting my own holistic based business at the end of the year. On days like today when I have a house to clean, places to go, and homework to complete (all as I question my abilities as a parent),the thought of starting a business terrifies me. It terrifies me because I feel that in order to have a business I must give up something in return...time with my kids, housework, balance in my life. I am overwhelmed as it is...laundry piles up, the kids and my husband get frustrated from lack of attention, and I can't even go to the bathroom alone, let alone start a business.   • Elaine Kessler: Yesterday I had Netflix watch my kids, today we're celebrating Mother's Day early since I have jobs lined up for the weekend. It's not that we're not making it work - we are - but I get that there's a whole world that could be working if I could get specific about that chunk that's simply not working.   • Dorinda Peyton: I struggle greatly with balancing life as a working mother... feeling that I cannot give 100% anywhere and desperately not wanting to short anyone the quality and effort they deserve. My love of photography has waned as I've struggled to adequately impress upon my children the love of Christ and feel incompetent to do both well.
